Arctostaphylos nevadensis

Family: Ericaceae.

Type: Low-growing (prostrate) evergreen shrub.

Branching: Alternate.

Leaves: Smooth, entire margins on small, round leaves. The leaves are often broader at the tip than at the base. Both blade surfaces are similar in color & texture; they may be smooth or somewhat hirsute, but they will match.

Twig: Orange-red, peeling bark on the older stems is distinctive of manzanitas. Points where branches touch the ground can generate new roots.

Fruit & Flower: Fruit is a small red drupe.

Miscellaneous: This is a common groundcover shrub from the upper montane forest up into the subalpine.
